Mac loses another Creative Application

It was just six months ago that the Apple creative user world was rocked by Adobe when it was announced that Adobe was to cease further development of the benchmark video editing application Premier. Adobe drops Premier Mac development ( 07.07.03)

Corel Corporation has now announced that it has dropped its very well known and once popular CorelDraw Graphics Suite for Mac OS. http://www.corel.com/ The bad news for CorelDraw believers by Chairman Derek Burney at a company press meeting. "Corel has not experienced that much demand for this product from Mac users."

Back when OS 8.5 was the hot set up, CorelDraw was nearly as popular graphics and layout design application for Mac as it was for Windows users. But as OS 9.x debuted, Corel began to drop the ball with Mac users by upgrading CorelDraw 8 to 9 for the Windows platform, while leaving Mac users in the lurch with a then 2-1/2 year old version, CorelDraw 8.

Corel finally delivered version 10, a resounding stinker for it’s flakyness and horrendously slow operations and crashes.

Not surprisingly, Burney said after the DOA announcement “96 per cent of Corel Graphics Suite sales have been of the Windows version of the software”, and observed that the ten per cent of sales to Mac users "…. Sales were insufficient to justify Mac development of the product." Maybe if Corel had tried to build a better product, sales might have been better?

Corel reported at the time that they had no plans to discontinue any of its remaining Mac products. Corel products like Painter has relatively good support from the Mac community, that is until Corel drops the ball on it too.

Of course Corel has an even bigger concern to be considering, will they still be in business another year.
